The Brigham Way recognizes BWHers who make the hospital a better place in many ways, big and small. The campaign, which began in 2012, has received its 100th nomination, and to celebrate, the most recent Brigham Way honorees were invited to share the ways they ‘pay it forward' at a March 19 luncheon.
"It's a tremendous pleasure to recognize and personally thank BWHers who strengthen and support our community by going above and beyond for patients, staff and each other," said BWH President Betsy Nabel, MD. "I am continually inspired and energized by the many ways our staff and faculty carry out their Brigham Ways every day."
The luncheon, held quarterly, served as an opportunity for the most recent honorees to share their stories of making the Brigham a better place to work, visit and receive care. Here are just a few of the many ways BWHers are making a difference:
Lucia Genao
Admitting officerPatient Access Services
My Brigham Way is to do unto others what I would want done unto me. I like to show others that I care, give them the best welcome I can and make sure their needs are met. I strive to greet everyone with a smile and try to help them.
My Brigham Way is continuing to improve the process for hospital staff requesting office services. I am motivated to make the process as efficient as possible, so that our staff can focus on providing the excellent patient- and family-centered care the Brigham is known for.
Gordon Hildick-Smith
Technical research assistant, Paw Laboratory
My Brigham Way is to always promote excellence in my research and collaboration with labs across the hospital. It's the best way to advance scientific discovery and, ultimately, that has the potential to help so many people.
Gloria Castro
Operations manager, NICU
My Brigham Way is going the extra mile for patients, families and visitors of the NICU to make sure they receive the best welcome possible. I want to make sure everyone is treated with dignity and respect, and for them to know they have a home at the Brigham.
Nicole Allen
Project manager, Cardiovascular Medicine
My Brigham Way is to empower patients to make informed decisions about participating in research here at the hospital. As a minority person myself, I understand that a lot of scientific research to date has not been able to, or has not previously included, a lot of minority experiences in terms of health care. By including these populations, the findings are more generalizable to the greater community.
